Winter is approaching and we wish you and your pets a safe and joyful holiday season. We would like to remind you of some things to look out for in the upcoming months.

 1. Insects will be coming into your homes for the winter. Watch for spider bites and be familiar with the signs of anaphylactic shock. Insect traps are usually baited with peanut butter, so keep them away from your pets.

2. Antifreeze is poisonous. It cleans up with soap and water. Keep an eye out for leaks.

3. Know which holiday plants are poisonous.

4. Use pet safe ice melt. When it is not possible, make sure you wash their feet before they get a chance to lick them. Better yet, get foot protection for them.

 5. Keep electrical cords out of reach.

6. Cold Injuries.

7. Over Indulgence. Watch those hams and turkeys and any other tasties. Do not give cooked bones as they can splinter and cause intestinal tearing.

8. Pine water is poisonous.

 9. Glass ornaments can be a particular problem for some dogs. They look like tennis balls.

10. Tinsel and garland can be a particular problem for cats. Remember not to pull string like material out, as it may have an ornament hook at the other end.

11. Alcoholic and caffeinated beverages should not be left unattended. They are unhealthy for a pet to ingest.

12. You should provide a safe quiet place for your pet(s) during holiday parties. Even small gatherings can be stressful for them. .
